Doing Business Report 2018: Mauritius ranked 25th by the World Bank and confirms its leading position in the Sub-Saharan Africa region

The Doing Business Report 2018 has reported improvements in ranking in 8 out of 10 indicators namely

  • Starting a Business;
  • Dealing with Construction Permits;
  • Getting Electricity;
  • Registering Property;
  • Paying taxes;
  • Trading Across Borders;
  • Enforcing contracts; and
  • Resolving Insolvency.

Mauritius is among the top 10 countries in the Dealing with Construction Permits and Paying taxes indicator.

The Report also mentioned that the country has consolidated its position as the most competitive economy in Sub Saharan Africa ahead of other countries such as Rwanda (41), Morocco (69), Kenya (80), Botswana (81) and South Africa (82).

Among the various factors having led to this positive result, you have the legislative amendments through the Business Facilitation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2017 and a series of administrative reforms undertaken by Ministries and Public Sector Agencies to improve their procedures.
