Mauritius and Cote d’Ivoire deepen trade ties

In a bid to broaden trade ties between Mauritius and Cote d’Ivoire, a business forum themed ‘Côte d’Ivoire – Ile Maurice: Tisser des partenariats novateurs pour une croissance partagée’ was organised in Mauritius in October 2022.

The event witnessed the participation of around 150 delegates including high officials from both countries as well as representatives of the both the public and private sectors.  It was also marked by the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ivory Coast (CCI-CI).

Cote d’Ivoire and Mauritius are currently negotiating on the signing of a double taxation avoidance agreement.  It is interesting to note that even in the absence of such a treaty, direct investments made via Global Business Companies (GBC) to Cote d’Ivoire amounted to USD 927 million whereas direct inward investments received by GBC from Cote d’Ivoire amounted to USD 406 million as of 30 June 2021 (source: FSC statistics).  This is a clear indication of the already strong bilateral ties that exist between both countries and the positioning of Mauritius as the International Financial Centre (IFC) of choice for the region.
