GFCI 34: Mauritius improves its ranking

Mauritius made great strides in affirming its position as an International Financial Centre (IFC) of excellence in the Global Financial Centre Index 34 (GFCI 34) published on the 28 September 2023, by moving up 13 places compared to the GFCI 33 (released in March 2023) and 24 places compared to the GFCI 32 (released in September 2022).

 

Mauritius now positions itself at the 68th position worldwide and 5th in Africa (GFCI 33: 81th worldwide and 8th in Africa ; GFCI 32: 92nd worldwide and 9th in Africa).

 

The GFCI 34 assesses 121 IFCs and noted that the average rating of centres in the index rose 3.63% compared with the GFCI 33 which suggests growing confidence in financial centers worldwide.

 

THE GFCI is a bi-annual report which assesses the competitiveness of IFCs based on 5 broad areas namely: Business Environment, Human Capital, Infrastructure, Financial Sector Development and Reputation.  The GFCI was first published in 2007 and is a joint publication of Z/Yen and the China Development Institute.
