GPI 2023: Mauritius remains the most peaceful country in Sub-Saharan Africa

Mauritius ranks 23^rd worldwide and 1^st in Sub-Saharan Africa, according to the 17^th edition of Global Peace Index 2023 (GPI 2023), the flagship report issued by the Institute for Economics and Peace.  This represents a significant improvement over its last year’s worldwide ranking in the same index, which stood at the 28^th position.

The Global Peace Index covers 163 countries, comprising 99.7% of the world’s population and measures the state of peace across three domains, namely the level of Societal Safety and Security; the extent of Ongoing Domestic and International Conflict; and the degree of Militarisation.
